Gitanjali Rao is the writer and Director of Bombay Rose, an animated feature film that Opened the 34th Venice Critic's Week 2019. The film has been to 25 international festivals and won four awards since September 2019. Gitanjali emerged into the international stage with her animated short, ‘Printed Rainbow’ which premiered and won three awards in Cannes Critic’s week 2006. The film made it to the 2008 Oscar shortlist and won 25 awards. She is also an actor and debuted in Shoojit Sircar's film 'October' which won her 5 nominations for best Supporting Actress.

Bombay Rose is Gitanjali's debut feature film. The film premiered as the Opening Film at the 34th Venice Critic's Week 2019. It received rave reviews and has been officially selected in more than 40 festivals including TIFF(Toronto), BusanIFF, IFFAMacao, MarrakechIFF, BFI(London), MAMI(India) and has received three awards since Sepember 2019. Painted frame by frame over a period of 2 years, at PaperBoat Animation Studios, India, this labour of love was conceived 6 years ago at the Cannes Next Step script lab. Gitanjali has managed to retain her own graphic style by designing all the characters and making the entire storyboard herself. The film will be ready in July 2019.
The film's talent include Sound Design by PM Satheesh, Production Design by Rupali Gatti, Color Concepts by Shailesh Ambre, Lyrics by Swanand Kirkire and the Voice of Cyli Khare.
